Studying in Erlangen

At the Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials (EAM) high-performance materials with custom-made features are developed. It is the vision of the Cluster to fill the gap between basic research in the field of nanotechnology and its application within engineering in key areas in technology and science. Researchers from 8 disciplines ranging from basic research in natural sciences to areas of application in engineering co-operate closely to achieve this objective.

The Cluster encourages early research involvement offering students to gain access to high-class scientific equipment, facilities, and pilot plants. If you are interested in studying in the city of Erlangen, you will find a wide range of courses in the fields of materials science and process science.

The Cluster offers master study programs in close cooperation with the Elite Network of Bavaria (ENB) as well as the following bachelor and master study programs:

Master Study Programs at the Elite Network of Bavaria (ENB)

Advanced Materials and Processes (MAP)
In close cooperation with the Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials (EAM) this English study program, being one of its kind in Germany, connects the two areas of study Materials Science and Chemical and Bioengineering. Many of the MAP lecturers are also involved with EAM, Germany’s only Cluster focusing on materials science issues. In this elite master program students have the possibility to join in EAM research projects in the framework of their MAP project theses or masters theses.

Advanced Optical Technologies (MAOT)
The “Master Program in Advanced Optical Technologies” (MAOT) is an interdisciplinary program within the framework of the Elite Network of Bavaria (ENB). Experts of different areas such as chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineer technicians, computer scientists, physicists, and medical scientists co-operate closely and offer their expertise and competencies to the key area of Optical Technologies.

Master Study Program with PhD

Physics Advanced
In this study program exceptionally talented and motivated students are offered the possibility to receive their PhD within six years. This objective is achieved through an innovative combination of study and research as well as an early student involvement in independent academic research.

EAM e-Learning Platform at ChemgaPedia

ChemgaPedia is the most comprehensive curricular encyclopedia for chemistry. The learning modules contributed by EAM can be located on the ChemgaPedia platform by following the menu item “Exzellenzcluster EAM” under the heading “Forschung und Anwendung”.With the first EAM learning modules on catalysis and photovoltaics published in September 2011, further additions will be made over the coming months.
